The Congress had a massive win in all the three Hindi heartlands in the assembly polls. Soon after the victory, the grand old party announce a loan waiver for farmers in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. The newly-elected ruling party made a key promise in the election campaign and its chief Rahul Gandhi demanded for 10 days to fulfil the promises.

After Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh now Rajasthan has become third Congress state to wave-off loans after its victory over the ruling BJP in the Hindi heartland states.

In Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, Chief Ministers Kamal Nath and Bhupesh Baghel signed off on the waiver hours after taking oath on Monday. Following their footstep, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot waved off loans for farmers on Wednesday. Gehlot had sought 10 days to announce the waiver but did it within two days.

Under the scheme, loans up to Rs. 2 lakh will be waived at the cost of Rs. 18,000 crore to the state.

Congress chief Rahul Gandhi took Twitter and said, “It's done! Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh & Chhattisgarh have waived farm loans. We asked for 10 days. We did it in 2.

After sweeping BJP the Congress chief Rahul Gandhi has been repeatedly referring to loan waivers by his party's governments in the three states, challenging PM Narendra Modi to do the same in other states. A video shot in a cellphone outside parliament show him telling reporters, "Dekha aapne? Aapne dekha? Shuru ho gaya na kaam?(You see? Haven't we started work?)".
