Congress delegations refrained from meeting P Chidambaram at Tihar Jail

Congress delegations on Friday went to Tihar Jail to meet former Finance Minister P Chidambaram but thet were not allowed to meet him because the assigned time was over.

The delegation comprised of Mukul Wasnik, PC Chako, Manikkam Tagore, Avinash Pandey and other leaders.


The delegations inquired about Chidambaram with the Jail Superintendent.

One of the delegation said that they went on the directives of Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi to exibit solidarity with the former finance minister.

The CBI court had on Thursday sent P Chidambaram to judicial custody till September 19th in the INX media case, stating that charges against him were found to be serious.

The Rouse Avenue court authorised Chidambaram’s application to provide a separate cell to him with appropriate security. Chidambaram filed an application, seeking safe detention while in Judicial custody.

P Chidambaram has been confronted by probe in cases filed by the CBI and the ED relating to charges of irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board clearance givin by the INX Media of Rs 305 crore in 2007 when he was the Finance Minister.
