Two brothers from Coimbatore, on 15 November, set a new swimming record by covering a combined distance of 22.65kms in an eight-hour swimathon.
S Sudhay, 15, and S Mritul, 12, achieved this incredible feat at the Yuva Bharathi Public School. Sudhay swam for a continuous five hours by using freestyle, breast, butterfly and back. Sudhay's brother Mritul covered a distance of 9.3kms in three hours only with freestyle technique. According to media reports, the brothers attempted to cover a distance of 12kms and 9kms respectively but managed to achieve more.

The brothers found themselves in Elite World records, Unique World Records, Asian Records Academy, Thamizhan Book of Records and India Records Academy.
Commenting on their achievement, a leading daily quoted their mother Bhanumati as saying, "Swimming is an exercise and a discipline; their true interest is set to lead them to IIT."
