Chennai: Man beats 20-year-old engineering student to death for not talking to him

A 20-year-old engineering student was beaten to death by her senior in a classroom in Karur district of Chennai, on 31 August.

The accused, Udhaya Kumar, is a college dropout and had allegedly stalked Sonali. They both studied in the same engineering college. However, according to the police, they were involved in a relationship with each other and the girl stopped had speaking to him after he left the college, NDTV reported.

Yesterday, when he confronted her in the college canteen, she refused to talk to him.

According to a report in NDTV, the police say Kumar was drunk and allegedly followed her to class. When Sonali still refused to talk to him, he attacked her with a log as the class watched in horror.

"She collapsed when she entered the classroom, bleeding," NDTV quoted senior police officer TK Rajasekaran as saying.

Udhaya Kumar was arrested and charged with murder soon after he attempted to flee.

The incident comes two months after 24-year-old Infosys techie Swathi was hacked to death at a busy railway station in Chennai by a man she had rejected.
