Bollywood actress Kirron Kher who is also a Member of Parliament, on Wednesday opened up on the gangrape of a 22-year-old woman in Chandigarh. During a press conference, she said that the victim should have not boarded the auto when she saw that three men were already sitting inside it.

During the press conference, she said that the crime has shaken the city. When Kher was asked about the incident she said, “Bachi ki samajhdaari ko bhi main thoda sa kehna chahti hun… saari bachiyon ko.. ki already jab koi teen aadmi baithe hue hain uske andar… to aapko usme bethna nahi chadhna chaeye tha….I am saying this to protect the girls…..”

The incident happened when the woman took and auto to reach back to her pg which was in Mohali after attending her classes in stenography in Sector 37. Three men who were in the auto raped her and later dumped her in Sector 53. Later the police was informed when people spotted her.

Kirron further said that both boys and girls should understand the same. Also people should make their boys understand and educate them so that such incidents do not happen but at the same time girls should also made aware and alert.

Ker further said, “Hum log bhi kabhi taxi lete the Mumbai mein… to kisi na kisi ko bhi..jo hamare sath hota tha… usse taxi ka number likha dete the.. because we wanted our safety as girls.. I remember as a girl… so mujhe lagta hai hum sab ko aaj kal ke zamane mein in cheezon ke liye sakhat hona padega (Whenever we took a taxi in Mumbai, we used to let someone know the taxi number …I feel that in these times, we also have to be more careful about these things).

Addressing the press conference, she said, “Insaan vahishi banta ja raha hai… people should educate their boys. Even in the family, when father doesn’t respect mother, that does create an impact on the kids,”

She also asked the media to spread awareness about the same with the help of police helpline and mobile app. When Kirron was further asked about why there was no Women’s Commission in Chandigarh, she said, “I am there… women can come to me...”

The MP also appreciated the way how the UT Police arrested the accused in the particular case.
