In a bid to send a strong message to non-performing officials, the Narendra Modi-led government has ordered 33 senior officials of the revenue department to take premature retirement.

The number of dismissed employees has risen to 105 as 72 officials were fired following departmental and disciplinary action over the course of last two years, NDTV reported.

It has been reported that PM Modi has been taking cognisance of the complaints against senior officials from different departments.

According to NDTV, this step has been taken to ensure that government officials do not take their jobs lightly.

A senior personnel ministry official was quoted as saying that the move by the centre was taken with the aim to change the mindset of officials who believe that poor performance will not affect their jobs.
