As the BJP announced Sadhvi Pragya Thakur as the Lok Sabha candidate from the Bhopal constituency, National Conference leader and former CM Omar Abdullah has hit out at the ruling dispensation for fielding a ‘terror accused’ in the battlefield.

Sadhvi Pragya, who is currently out on bail in the Malegaon blast case, joined the Bhartiya Janta Party on Wednesday and she was immediately handed a ticket by the party from Bhopal, which is being contested by Congress’ senior leader and former CM Digvijay Singh.

Omar Abdullah, while recording his dissent over the latest appointment tweeted, “What a mockery of the legal system the BJP has made with its candidate for Indore! A person, an under-trial, who stands accused of terrorism; out on bail on health grounds but clearly healthy enough to fight elections in the crippling summer heat. Hindutva rules!”

Former CM and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti also shared her anger over the inclusion of Sadhvi Pragya in the BJP and eventually fielding her from Bhopal.

Mufti tweeted saying, “Imagine the anger if I’d field a terror accused. Channels would’ve gone berserk by now trending a mehboobaterrorist hashtag! According to these guys terror has no religion when it comes to saffron fanatics but otherwise all Muslims are terrorists. Guilty until proven innocent.”

Second phase of elections are already underway and the polling is taking place across 12 states and a Union Territory, with 1,295 candidates under fray and 95 seats on offer. Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Odisha among others are states which are undergoing polls.
