Students of the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology(KIIT) blocked the road on 6 August, protesting the alleged rape of a girl student in the National Institute of Fashion Technology, in Bhubaneswar.

Angry over the incident, around a thousand students blocked the KIIT-Sikharchandi road and demanded immediate and strong action against those involved.

However, according to Odisha Tv, Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi completely denied of any such incident taking place.

"No such incident took place last night. The concerned girl is safe," he told media persons after preliminary investigation by the police.

The agitating students, mostly girls have alleged that the victim kept crying for help but was overpowered by the miscreants. Even the security men didn't come to her rescue.

"Even as the other 2-3 girls, who were eyewitness to the incident, screamed for help, the security guards present barely 100 metres away did not act. What security system is this?" a protesting student was quoted by Odisha TV.

According to reports, the incident occurred at around 2 am when the girl was returning to her hostel, with her friends. The girls were chased by some miscreants, who took the victim to an isolated area in the vicinity.

"Even if the incident happened at 2 am, the authorities are yet to turn up. How come they become so inhuman?...We want the CCTV footage to be checked thoroughly and the culprit identified," another student was quoted by the regional news channel.

Some girl students also alleged that they were threatened by the hostel wardens to stay inside their respective rooms or they will not be allowed to appear in the placement interviews.
