Bharat Bandh Protest: Clashes breaks out in Bihar's Arrah, gunshots heard; protesters block trains, highways

A nation-wide anti-quota protest by several groups against caste-based reservations has triggered clashes between two groups in Bihar's Sarah. The anti-quota protest has triggered security in several states, protesters blocked a train in Bihar’s Arrah, and roads, raising slogans against caste-based reservation in jobs and educational institutes.

Traffic was suspended in various parts. According to report a gunshots were reportedly heard during the clash.

 

Markets in Jhalawar were shut during protests against caste-based reservations, protesters held a bike-rally. The Union Home Ministry said all the state governments to be active to avoid any violence during the protest that causes loss of life and property.

Near by a dozen of people have been injured in a clash in Bihar during the anti-quota protests, Bharat Bandh called by various groups to protest against reservation policies, PTI reported.

Section 144 has been also imposed in several states like Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttrakhand. Along with that in several districts of Rajasthan including the capital, internet services will be suspended from 10 pm Monday night to Tuesday night.

According to the sources in the police one company of border security force(BSF) has also been put on standby mode in Jaipur. “We will not hesitate to use force in case troubles are made by some miscreants,” said a senior officer.

Following the Bharat Bandh, Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) postponed exams on 55 subjects at 88 centres in view of the shutdown call in Odisha.
