The controversy over the country's highest civilian honour, Bharat Ratna, is on fire since it names were announced by the Centre. After politicians now Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev has joined the Bharat Ratna controversy row. Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev has raised questions on not awarding Bharat Ratna to any ‘Sanyasis’ since independence.

Baba Ramdev has urged the government to give this highest honour to a ‘Sanyasis’ (Hindu saint) next time. He questioned the government whether it is a crime to become a Hindu in the country. Ramdev even had said that Mother Teresa got Bharat Ratna because of being a Christian.

“Maharishi Dayananda aur Swami Vivekananda ka yogdaan rajnetaon, kalakaron se kam hai? Aaj tak ek bhi sanyasi ko Bharat Ratna kyun nahi mila? Mother Teresa ko de sakte hain kyunki wo Esaai hain, lekin sanyasiyon ko nahi kyunki vo Hindu hain, Hindu hona gunaah hai iss desh mein,?” said Baba Ramdev.

The Patanjali cofounder asked if the contribution of Dayananda or Swami Vivekananda is less than any politician or artist? “It's unfortunate that in last 70 years, not even one sanyasi has been awarded Bharat Ratna, be it Maharishi Dayananda Saraswati or Swami Vivekananda, Shivakumara Swami Ji. All these saints who have contributed so much must also be conferred with the Bharat Ratna,” Baba Ramdev added.
