A school bus carrying as many as 37 children plunged into a drain in Amritsar's Mahawa village on 20 September. The bodies of at least seven children have been recovered from the canal during rescue operations.

The bus was carrying the children back home from school when the mishap occurred.

The injured children have been rushed to two private hospitals in Amritsar where they're being treated.

Reports suggest that most of the children hail from the border districts of Punjab. Rescue operations are still underway.

Details awaited.
