Women employees of the Assam government will be granted Child Care Leave (CCL) for a maximum period of two years or 730 days during their entire service period for taking care of up to two minor children for nurturing and other purposes.

The state government said the new provision in the Fundamental Rules and Subsidiary Rules came with immediate effect which may be availed in more than one spell and shall not be debited against other leave accounts, an official release said today.

The CCL was subject to certain conditions like, being applicable only in case where the child was a minor (less than 18 years of age).

It, however, cannot be demanded as a matter of right and under no circumstances could any employee proceed on CCL without prior sanction.

It is also not admissible during the probation period, while the period of wilful absence or unauthorised absence shall not be converted into CCL, the release said.

The period of Earned Leave or any other kind of leave already sanctioned or availed shall not be converted into CCL with retrospective effect, the release added.
