Based on specific intelligence, the Indian Army during the wee hours of Sunday launched a series of joint operations with the Assam Police in Kokrajhar, in which they neutralised three top terrorists of the outlawed group National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Songbijit).

During the course of the operation, the troops noticed suspected persons moving through the dense jungles, and on being challenged, these persons opened indiscriminate fire on the troops.

The Army team retaliated with controlled fire and in the ensuing fire fight, three terrorists were neutralised. Two of the killed terrorists have been identified as Rahul Basumatari and Ritu Basumatari.

Four pistols, a large quantity of ammunition, hand grenades and other stores have been recovered from the slain terrorists.

The neutralisation of these terrorists has come as a major setback for the group, as it is already reeling under the pressure from the relentless CI/CT operations launched against them by the army in conjunction with other security forces.
