Armed forces official to fly free on Independence Day, courtesy Air India

National carrier Air India will bestow armed forces personnel with a special offer on Independence Day.

Armed forces officials including those in Navy, Army and Air Force, will be able to travel for free with their companions on its entire domestic route on 15 August.

"Air India is giving a special offer for military personnel of Indian Armed Forces (Army, Navy and Air Force) allowing them free travel with a companion on its entire domestic network," Live Mint quoted an airline official on conditions of anonymity.

The passenger travelling with serving military personnel will only have to pay ticket taxes.

However, the scheme is applicable only on economy class tickets.

Last month, the state-run Air India had upgraded war heroes travelling economy class with the airline to business class. This included people who have been honoured with military honours like the Param Vir Chakra, Maha Vir Chakra, Vir Chakra, Ashok Chakra, Kirti Chakra and Shaurya Chakra.
