Araku MLA Kidari Sarveswara Rao and former Araku MLA Siveri Soma shot dead by Maoists in Vishakhapatnam

Naxals on Sunday sunned down two politicians in Andhra Pradesh. Araku MLA Kidari Sarveswara Rao and former Araku MLA Siveri Soma shot dead by Maoists in Dumbriguda Mandal in Vishakhapatnam.

As per reports, the two TDP leaders were killed in Dumbriguda mandal of Araku valley in Visakhapatnam district. The two TDP leaders were travelling together when the alleged attack took place. Reports also suggest that the attack occurred in the interiors of the district.


"Around 20 members from CPI Maoist attacked them at around 12 pm, snatched the weapons from the PSOs, & later fired at them. Both died on the spot. Reason behind attack yet to be ascertained," said Visakhapatnam DIG Srikanth.

According to media reports, the Maoists opened fire after the former and current MLA reached the district to attent a party meeting. The vehicle in which the two politicians were travelling was forcefully stopped by the Maoists midway after which they gunned down the two.

"We're trying to ascertain facts from the PSOs. As per preliminary information, 20 Maoists were there with weapons & there may be some more in the neighbouring vicinity & they came along with the villagers," Visakhapatnam DIG Srikanth added.
