Amit Shah tests positive for coronavirus, home minister hospitalised

Union home minister Amit Shah has put out a tweet saying that he has tested positive for coronavirus, which has passed infection to over 17 lakh people in India.

"On getting the initial symptoms of coronavirus, I got the test done and the report came back positive. My health is fine, but I am being admitted to the hospital on the advice of doctors. I request that all of you who have come in contact with me in the last few days, please isolate yourself and get your inquiry done," Amit Shah tweeted in Hindi.


 

The coronavirus outbreak has claimed the life of a cabinet minister from Uttar Pradesh Kamal Rani Varun, who was 62 years old, drew her last breath at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences in Lucknow this morning.

India has recorded over 17 lakh cases of coronavirus adding 1 lakh patients to the total in just two days. Over the past 24 hours, 54,735 cases of the disease were logged, data from the Union health ministry displayed.
