Aligarh Muslim University expels 11 students, suspends 17

On 23 June, the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) administration expelled 11 students and suspended 17 others in connection with the 23 April campus violence - which claimed the lives of two students and left several injured.

"It is prima facie established from the investigation of CCTV footage that all the students who have been suspended were involved in gross misconduct and indiscipline," AMU Proctor Mohd Mohsin Khan said in a notification.

The AMU campus and its "maintained" institutions will be out of bounds for all the suspended students, pending inquiry, the notification said.

Two people were killed in an altercation between two groups of students of the Aligarh Muslim University on 23 April. One student was killed when the police opened fire in a bid to stop the violence.
