Guru Ram Rahim mimicking controversy: Actor Kiku 'Palak' Sharda released on surety of Rs 1 lakh

Actor Kiku Sharda who was arrested for mimicking Dera Sacha Sauda chief Baba Gurmeet Ram Rahim, has been on surety bond of Rs 1 lakh. The actor who plays the character of 'Palak' in Comedy Nights With Kapil, had earlier apologised for his action.

Meanwhile, the Dera chief himself tweeted: "If he has apologized, no complaint from my side".

Sharda's colleague Comedian Kapil Sharma has urged Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh to come forward and defend actor Kiku Sharda, who only spreads happiness through his acting.

"I appeal to Gurmeet Ram Raheem Singh ji "INSAAN" to come in front of the media in regard to this matter and present a beautiful example of kindness by defending an actor, who only spreads happiness through his acting. Let's work for peace and happiness together," Sharma tweeted.

The issue came to light after the December 27, 2015, episode of 'Comedy Nights with Kapil' was aired on television. This episode had Sharda mimic the Dera Sacha Sauda head, something which didn't go down too well with his followers, leading them to file a police case against the actor.

The actor has been booked under Section 295 A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for outraging religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious belief.

Kiku, on the very next day of the episode, wrote an apology on his twitter handle saying, "Doston the act on TV was not to hurt anyone's feelings. My apologies to @Gurmeetramrahim ji and his followers. Let's spread happiness."
