Woman delivers baby in 1 rupee clinic

A 20-year-old woman travelling to Mumbai in an Express train reportedly develop labour pain. Following which she delivers a baby boy at Thane Railway station in Mumbai on Saturday morning.

The woman identified as Pooja Munna Chauhan was travelling to Mumbai via Konkan Kanya Express. Around 5:40 am she goes into labour pain when the officials at Thane Railway station comes to her rescue after station manager was informed about the incident.

Chauhan was immediately taken to Thane Railway station’s “1 rupee clinic” in a stretcher where she successfully delivered her healthy baby. At the 1 rupee clinic, the doctors conducted a delivery procedure upon her and she delivered a baby boy.

On Saturday morning, a picture of a woman and her newly born baby along with the helping nurse was widely shared on social media. Both the mother and infant are doing fine, doctors at the one-rupee clinic said.

After the picture of mother and baby went viral, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal shared the post and praised Thane Railway officials and One Rupee Clinic's staff. "Thane ke Chowkidars are always ready to serve the nation," tweeted Piyush Goyal

1 Rupee Clinic was set up at various railway stations in Maharashtra two years ago in 2017 to help the commuters in case of a medical emergency. It is a 24X7 clinic which was established by The Central Railway along with Mumbai based medical firm, following the orders of Bombay High Court.

This is not the first time this incident took place when a delivered a baby boy on Ahmedabad-Puri Express last year in 2018. A final year MBBS student took help of her seniors on Whatsapp to help the woman with delivery.
