An Special Investigation Team (SIT) court held two accused guilty and acquitted three in connection with the 2002 Godhra riots. The duo guilty were given life imprisonment by a SIT court on Monday in the 2002 Godhra train carnage case.

In 2002, the Sabarmati Express was set on fire in which 59 ‘karsevaks’ were killed in two coaches.

The two accused Farooq Bhana and Imran Sheru were convicted and awarded life sentence by Special judge H C Vora. The prosecution established the role of both as conspirators in the burning of the train.

Those who were acquitted by the court are Hussain Suleman Mohan, Kasam Bhamedi and Faruk Dhantiya. Intelligence Agencies nabbed six accused from different places during 2015-2016. One of them died of cardiac arrest this year. They were absconding for a decade. In 2011, the court announced verdict against 94 accused in the case. Earlier, the court convicted 31 people in the same case.
