The Delhi High Court on Monday convicted Congress leader Sajjan Kumar in 34-years-old 1984 anti-Sikh riots case. Sajjan was acquitted by the trial court that was reversed by Delhi HC. Congress leader has been awarded lifetime jail sentence. However, the verdict on Sajjan Kumar's conviction came on the day when another senior Congress leader Kamal Nath sworn-in a Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh. Newly elected CM has been allegedly named in 1984 riots along with Sajjan Kumar.

Sajjan Kumar's conviction has awakened the ghost of anti-Sikh riots and the ruling Bhartiya Janta Party has been opposing over Kamal Nath being awarded Chief Ministership of Hindi heartland. Barely after Congress announced Kamal Nath as its CM pick for Madhya Pradesh, the ghost of 1984 anti-Sikh riots is back to haunt him.

According to reports in HuffingtonPost, Several political leaders accused Nath of being party to the riots in Delhi where at least 3,000 Sikhs were brutally murdered and several others were displaced.

Also, a Delhi BJP leader Tejinder Pal Singh Bagga on Monday sat on an indefinite hunger strike against Rahul Gandhi's decision of nominating Kamal Nath for the CM's post in Madhya Pradesh. Joining the spree, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley called it a coincidence that on the same day on accused is sent to jail for life one awarded CM's chair. “Ye vidambna hai ki ye aaya uss din hai ki jab Sikh samaj jis doosre neta ko doshi maanta hai, Congress ussey mukhyamantri ki shapath dila rahi hai,” Jaitely said.

Meanwhile, the Bhartiya Janta Party spokesperson Sambit Patra demanded Rahul Gandhi's resignation from party chief's post. “Rahul Gandhi should resign as Congress' chief. Kamal Nath ji's name crops up along with affidavit & evidence in a report submitted to Nanavati Commission. A man involved in anti-Sikh riots has been made the MP CM. Mr Rahul Gandhi must expel him from the party,” Patra said.
