A 19-year-old married woman was allegedly raped by six armed robbers after they broke into her house in Daman's Kachigam area, the police reported.
According to a complaint lodged by the victim, the incident took place in the wee hours of Wednesday and the robbers decamped with Rs 400 in cash and some jewellery after raping her, Sohail Jivani, police inspector of Moti Daman police station said.
The victim lived with her husband in a rented room in the industrial area of Kachigam.
Investigations revealed that the robbers, armed with swords and other sharp weapons, opened the door of the room using a large magnet in the wee hours.
"The woman was alone at her residence at the time of the incident as her husband was on night-shift duty. We suspect that robbers opened the door latch from outside using a large magnet, normally used in audio speakers. The victim alleged that she was raped by all the six armed robbers who threatened to kill her," said Jivani.
"We learnt that the robbers first locked the doors of all the other rooms in the chawl before committing the crime, so that neighbours could not come to her rescue," he added.
An FIR under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the six accused and efforts are on to nab them, the officer said.
