Ek Nayi Subha: Modi's ministers talk about NDA schemes at govt's mega event

The five-hour long mega event to commemorate the second anniversary of the Modi government was kickstarted in the national capital with Amitabh Bachchan speaking on the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao scheme and actor R. Madhavan anchoring the "Ek Nayi Subah" event.

Many celebrities and leaders have been invited to the event.

Uma Bharti speaks about Clean Ganga

At the event, Minister Uma Bharti said,"Previous governments spent the money in an unplanned way. We have a clear, phased approach to clean the Ganga."

"Today Ganga is among the 10 most dirtiest rivers in the world. By 2018, it will be among the ten cleanest rivers," she promised.

Bharti added,"At Modi government's second-anniversary event, Rs 20,000 crore has been sanctioned by the government to clean river Ganga."

Women's issues under spotlight

"To understand the state of a society, one should check the condition of the women there," said Kiren Rijiju, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs of India, at the mega event.

Women in north-east India are upfront in all aspects, Rijiju added.

Minister Harvinder Kalyan spoke about the impact of government's schemes and steps taken to ensure the safety of women in Haryana - a state with a one of the country's worst gender ratios. "There is a change in the atmosphere. We can see a lot of change," he stated.
