Studies suggests that 50 per cent of women have period pains and 10 per cent of them are women who suffer unbearable pain. Period pains occur one or two days before menstruation or on the same day. The pain occurs in the lower abdomen, back and thighs.
Few people knows that period pain is of two types. First Primary Dysmenorrhea, Second Secondary Dysmenorrhea. The first kind of pain is due to the contraction of the uterus during menstruation. During this, some Hormones becomes active and that later leads to cramps during Labor pain.
The pain of secondary Dysmenorrhea is due to some medical condition. This condition can be Fibroids. Fibroids are non-cancerous tumors that occur on the wall of the uterus. Pelvic inflammatory disease, adenomyosis and cervical stenosis are also the causes for pain.
If you are under 20 years of age or your period has started at 11 years or less then you are more at risk of Dysmenorrhea. If you do not have children or have heavy flow during periods, you may get more pain. Apart from this, emotional stress can also increase your pain, so try to avoid stress by diverting your mind.
You can take painkillers such as aspirin or paracetamol to avoid period pain, or home remedies can also be beneficial. For home remedies you should take a hot bath or flush with a hot water bottle in the lower part of the abdomen.
