Kim Kardashian West, socialite-television personality met US President Donald Trump at the White House on Wednesday. The meeting was regarding sentencing and prison reform, Trump confirmed in a tweet Wednesday night.

"Great meeting with @KimKardashian today, talked about prison reform and sentencing," Mr. Trump tweeted.

Kim has been trying to advocate for a pardon for Alice Marie Johnson, a great-grandmother serving a life sentence for a nonviolent drug offense. Alice has spent more than two decades in prison. Vanity Fair first reported the Kardashian sister would be visiting Washington and meeting with White House officials.

White House reporters spotted Kardashian entering and exiting the West Wing on Wednesday afternoon, after White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders confirmed the visit.

Kim tweeted about Johnson Wednesday: "Happy Birthday Alice Marie Johnson. Today is for you."

Kardashian also met with Jared Kushner, senior adviser and Trump’s son-in-law, who has made criminal justice reform one of his policy goals.

She later wrote about the meeting, “I would like to thank President Trump for his time this afternoon. It is our hope that the President will grant clemency to Ms. Alice Marie Johnson who is serving a life sentence for a first-time, non-violent drug offense.”

“We are optimistic about Ms. Johnson’s future and hopeful that she —and so many like her—will get a second chance at life.”

Kushner, who now has a permanent security clearance after more than a year of using an interim clearance, has made prison reform a key part of his portfolio. Kushner's father, Charles Kushner, served time in federal prison for white collar crimes, including illegal campaign contributions and tax evasion.
