A poll of global experts released on Thursday ranked India as the most dangerous country for women in regards to sexual violence and slave labour.

Afghanistan and Syria rank second and Somalia and Saudi Arabia rank third. The US ranks third and the only western nation in top 10.

2011 survey had India as one of the dangerous countries among other countries like Afghanistan, Pakistan, Democratic Republic of Congo and Somalia.

Experts believe that India topping the poll clearly showed that the government has not done much to curb and tackle the atrocities faced by women.

A Karnataka government official (doesn't want to be named) said, "India has shown utter disregard and disrespect for women (rape, marital rapes, sexual assault, domestic servitude and harassment) female infanticide has gone unabated,"

He also added that a country which has a growing economy and progressing space and technology is shamed for violence committed against women."

According to a government data, crimes against women has increased by 83 percent (2007 and 2016), it is estimated that there were nearly four cases of rape every hour.
