Lockdown positive impact: Odisha witness drop in crime rate

Since nation-wide lockdown has been imposed from 22nd March, states have witnessed a drop in the crime rate. Earlier we told you Haryana's Gurugram has witnessed over 80 per cent of drop in the crime such as rape, murder, theft and robbery. Similarly, Odisha has also witnessed a dip in the crime such as rape, murder, sexual harassment, dowry death among others.

As per IndianExpress reports, almost all the 13 police stations in the district have registered zero cases. However, Balikuda police station has registered one case of murder and assault in the last 25 days.


As we told you earlier due to the lockdown cases of domestic violence have seen a sharp rise, but other crimes against the women such as rape, dowry death have seen drop considerably in the district.

Speaking to a tabloid, senior police official said that the drop in the street crime such as theft of bike and cars, snatching have come to a standstill as people have started staying indoors. Since the market and shops are closed and the number of police has increased in all the areas so criminals are not getting chance to steal things.

However, since the roads are deserted now so several dacoits have taken advantage of its and have become active in Paradip and Jagatsinghpur area. Recently a gang of dacoit looted the house and stole 75,000 kept in the side-box of a bike that was parked in police barrack area.
