Filmmaker’s wife, daughter allegedly set themselves on fire; know why

Filmmaker Santosh Gupta’s wife Asmita and daughter Srishti ended their lives by setting themselves on fire at their home in Mumbai’s suburban Andheri’s DN Nagar.

According to timesnownews.com reports, the filmmaker’s wife took a drastic step as she was suffering from prolonged kidney disease. While couple’s daughter killed herself due to the trauma of her mother’s illness.


As per media reports, the mother and the daughter set themselves on fire on Monday afternoon in their residence.

However, the incident came to light when neighbours called the fire brigades after seeing the flames from their apartment, an official told news agency PTI.

Santosh Gupta’s wife and daughter were rushed to Cooper Hospital, where Asmita declared dead on arrival while her daughter had suffered 70 percent burn injuries and later succumbed to her injuries at the Airoli National Burns centre.

"We have registered two different accidental death reports in the case and further investigation is underway," senior inspector Bharat Gaikwad from DN Nagar police station said.
