Assam: Panchayat woman paraded naked with garland of shoes in village

A heinous incident was reported from Assam's Barpeta where a woman was allegedly thrashed and paraded naked with a garland of shoes by locals.

As per reports, the woman who holds a senior position at the local panchayat was thrashed by the locals as they were miffed at the village panchayat. On the day of the incident, several villagers came out in the protest against the corruption in Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana scheme.


Alerted police reached the village and rescued the woman from the angry mob. As per TimesNow, angry mob alleged that the woman had been involved in corrupt practices.

The police said that the mob was cheering and dancing when the woman was being stripped and thrashed. They paraded her naked around the village with the garland of shoes around her neck. Not just this, they also vandalised the furniture of panchayat office and set electronic gadgets and documents at the blaze.

So far no arrest has been taken place, police said that they are investigating the matter.

In July a similar incident was reported from Muzaffarpur where a woman was allegedly thrashed, stripped naked by her husband, Anganwadi worker and some villagers. The woman was allegedly beaten after she had an argument with an Anganwadi worker. After the incident when the woman approached the police they refused to register an FIR.
