Madonna, the Queen of Pop, has been named 'Woman of the Year' by Billboard for "her creative vision, relentless innovation, and dedication to philanthropic causes".

The magazine has announced that the seven-time Grammy Award winner will be honored at the 11th annual Women in Music event, to be held in New York City on 9 December.

President and chief creative officer of The Hollywood Reporter-Billboard Media group, Janice Min, said in a statement that Madonna is one of a miniscule number of super-artistes whose influence and career transcend music and with her creative vision, relentless innovation, and dedication to philanthropic causes, she is an inspiration to hundreds of millions of people around the world.

Born Madonna Louise Ciccone, the 58-year-old singer is the best-selling female recording artiste of all time, having sold over 300 million records till October 2013.
