Bollywood stars have already raised the style stakes high at the Cannes 2016, what with Mallika Sherawat walking in looking like a shimmery mermaid on 12 May.

This time around, Neerja actress Sonam Kapoor will attempt to turn heads with her appearance at the amfAR Gala at the Cannes Film Festival. This will be the 30-year-old actress' first appearance at the prestigious Cinema Against AIDS fundraiser.

"It's an honour to be a part of the esteemed amfAR gala. I cannot stress enough the importance of AIDS research in our time. This foundation is doing such incredible work dedicated towards raising funds for life-saving research programs that help the fight against AIDS. I am looking forward to meeting the wonderful team that chairs amfAR and hope to contribute to this cause in every way possible," Sonam said in a statement.

Aishwarya Rai, a Cannes regular who has been attending the prestigious film festival for 14 years now, has previously chaired the amfAR Gala. However due to the promotions of her upcoming film Sarabjit, she will give the Gala a miss this time round.

Helen Mirren, Sharon Stone, Katy Perry, Kenneth Cole, Lewis Hamilton, Isabeli Fontana, Barbara Palvin and supermodel Irina Shayk are also expected to attend the event.

This is Sonam's sixth visit to the Cannes. And if her past appearances are any indication, then Sonam is likely to impress the fashion critics once again.
