Award-winner comic book series, Bone to be adapted onscreen by Kung Fu Panda director

Everybody loves Kung Fu fighting, but the director of the iconic series is bringing Jeff Smith's Eisner-winning comic book series, Bone to the silver screen. Produced by Warner Bros and directed by Mark Osborne, the film already feels like another legend in the making.

Apart from directing, Osborne will co-write the screenplay of the project with Adam Kline; while also serving as an executive producer with Mark Bauch of Dan Lin's Lin Pictures. As of now, a trilogy of animated feature films is in the works.

Osborne says Bone is "very special and unconventional because it blends elements together that you don't necessarily expect - soft, little comic characters and epic high-stakes fantasy adventure".

He said: "To carry this into the cinematic realm presents both an opportunity to represent what readers of all ages have loved about the series, while pushing animated storytelling into exciting and different areas."

Bone was published from 1991 to 2004. The comic book series follows three Bone cousins -- Fone Bone, Phoney Bone and Smiley Bone, who are all small, bald creatures with bulbous noses. After unfortunately getting run out of Boneville, the Bone brothers get separated and lost in a vast uncharted desert. One by one, they find their way into a deep forested valley filled with wonderful and terrifying creatures.

The big screen take on Bone has actually been in development for a few years, with Australian filmmaker PJ Hogan earlier attached to direct.
