A dominant Manchester City overcame the threat from Liverpool to win the Capital One Cup 3-1 on penalties, after an exciting 120 minutes ended with the scores locked at 1-1.

This is Manchester City's second Capital One Cup triumph in three years, and the fifth trophy the club has won since the Sheikh Mansour-owned City Football Group took over the ownership of the club.

For Liverpool, the final presented a chance to clinch their first trophy since they last won the Capital One Cup (then called the Carling Cup) on penalties by beating Cardiff. In the run-up to this year's final as well, Liverpool beat Carlisle United and Stoke City on penalties, but were unable to keep their nerve as Lucas Leiva, Philippe Coutinho, and Adam Lallana's penalties were saved by Willy Caballero.
