Chelsea legend Didier Drogba announced his arrival in the Major League Soccer (MLS) with a well-taken hat-trick against Chicago Fire in Montreal on Saturday, 5 September, in what was his first start for his team.
Drogba opened the scoring in the 27th minute after collecting a cross from Nigel Rio-Coker, giving his team a 1-0 lead in the process. However, Chicago Fire came back into the match and managed to grab a 3-2 lead by the hour mark.
Just when it seemed like the away side would manage to grab a crucial win, Drogba equalised with a powerful left-footed finish into the roof of the net. Four minutes later, Drogba struck again to give Montreal Impact a 4-3 lead. The Canadian outfit then held on to pick up three important points, which will keep them in the driving seat to clinch a place in the knockout stages.
