Having reached the top of the Serie A table following a 15-game winning streak, which was brought to a halt with last weekend's goalless draw against Bologna, Juventus are set to host the five-time European champions in Turin in the first leg of their round of 16 tie on Tuesday, 23 February.
Juventus, who finished as the runners-up last season, had endured a horrid start to the season and were languishing in the mid-table in Serie A before the winning streak took them to the top of the standings.
Bayern Munich are in fine form as well and are currently eight points clear of the Bundesliga table. Touted as one of the favourites for the Champions League crown, they will, however, face a stern test of their title credentials against a strong Juventus side.
While Juventus will start as the underdogs, they will be confident of their chances, given their recent form.
"If we beat Bayern, we'll be considered as one of the favourites for the trophy," the Bianconeri manager Massimiliano Allegri had said when the draw was announced in December.
It will definitely be a big statement from the Italian team if they manage to knock out Pep Guardiola's side, but Allegri and his men know only too well it is easier said than done.
