South Asian Games 2016: Maldives hold India to goalless draw in women's football

The Indian women's football team was held to a goalless draw by Maldives in the opening match of the women's football section at the 12th South Asian Games in Shillong on Friday, 5 February.

The Indian team, which was missing the services of star forward Bala Devi, failed to get past a resolute Maldivian defence to settle for a frustrating draw at the city's Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

With India having defeated Maldives by scorelines of 15-0 and 8-0 in their last two meetings, Friday's result comes as a major shock.

The home team will now face Sri Lanka in the next game of the competition on 9 February.
