Shillong Lajong successfully defended their Shillong Premier League title on Saturday, 21 November, with a thrilling 2-1 win over Royal Wahingdoh in the final at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong.

The I-League club were given a run for their money by fierce rivals Wahingdoh, as the title clash was stretched to extra time to decide the winner.

Lajong took the lead early on in the 14th minute courtesy of Bipin Singh, who latched on to a through ball from teammate Samuel Lalmuanpuia to draw first blood for his side.

Wahingdoh, however, came back in the second half and equalised in the 52nd minute through forward Nagen Tamang. The game progressed to extra time as both sides failed to grab the winner.

In the second half of extra time, however, skipper Rupert Nongrum came up with an exquisite finish from close range to win the title for Lajong.

In the process, the Reds retained the title they had lifted last season with a very young side.
