Manchester United dreaming of FA Cup triumph, says Louis van Gaal after win over Derby

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has said that his side are dreaming of lifting the prestigious FA Cup for the first time since 2004.

In a major relief for the under-fire Dutchman, United claimed a 3-1 win over Derby County in the FA Cup fourth round on Friday.

Daley Blind and Juan Mata scored for United in the second half after George Thorne had cancelled out Wayne Rooney's 16th-minute opener.

Reflecting on his team's performance, Van Gaal said that they played at the right time against the resistance of Derby, adding that they are dreaming of the FA Cup as they haven't won it for a long time.

"I'm very happy. The result and the performance was good. The confidence is back," Van Gaal said following the game.

"The Premier League is important and the FA Cup also because it is the greatest cup in English history. We haven't won it for a long time. We dream of it, but after two wins you cannot say we shall win the trophy because a lot of clubs want to win it," he added.

United's performance came under severe criticism in the wake of winning only four of their last 14 games, and were booed off the field at Old Trafford after last weekend's 1-0 home defeat by Southampton.
