The 26-year-old was tested positive for a fat burner after Liverpool's 1-1 draw against Manchester United in the Europa League on March 17.
Confirming the news, European football's governing body UEFA said the disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against the Liverpool player, relating to a violation of the Anti-Doping Regulations, Sport24 reported.
UEFA added that Sakho did not request for the analysis of the B sample and, therefore, he faces a provisional suspension of 30 days until a final decision is being made.
