Atletico Madrid hold slender advantage against Bayern as Niguez goal gives Spaniards hope

Atletico Madrid earned a shock 1 - 0 victory over Bayern Munich in the second semi-final of the UEFA Champions League at the Vicente Calderon on Wednesday night, courtesy a stunning solo goal by midfielder Saul Niguez.

Bayern, who were overwhelming favourites going into the fixture, could not find a way past the stubborn Atletico Madrid defence. It was clear that Atletico had set their team up to defend deep and play on the counter attack. The plan was followed to perfection as despite their chances, Bayern could not deal with the swift change of play that Atletico exhibited from time to time.

Bayern dominated the second half, with David Alaba hitting the bar from 35 yards and Arturo Vidal's strike forcing a good save from goalkeeper Jan Oblak.

The teams will meet at Bayern's Allianz Arena on 4 May once again to decide who will meet Manchester City or Real Madrid in the final on 28 May.
