The Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) is all set to launch Project Vishwajeet, aimed at improving Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) global academic rankings and make it top league internationally. The meeting was presided over by HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar.

The MHRD will focus on IITs with the highest potential to notch up international rankings, backed with funding, so that they excel on all parameters.

The IIT Council is all set to discuss the plan of action on 23 August with all IITs and concerned stakeholders.

Currently, Indian institutes figure on international rankings like QS and Times Higher Education . However, IITs rank low on the lists.

Project Vishwajeet will identifying the parameters on which IITs are lagging behind and take targetted action to address the shortcoming, reports the Economic Times.

QS Rankings, for instance, rates institutes based on six indicators: academic reputation, employer reputation, student-faculty ratio, citations per faculty, international faculty and student ratio. THE rankings too have similar indicators. Indian institutes often fall behind on international parameters and academic reputation.
