On Monday, Delhi University's academic council exempted those who have a PhD degree before 2009 from National Eligibility Test (NET).

The council also approved a committee's recommendations for recruitment of teachers with minor change. DU's sub-committee also recommended a 50:30:20 formula for recruit. As per the formula, 25 out of 50 marks is fixed for academic record and research criteria, 20 for teaching and 10 for domain knowledge, while 20 marks is fixed for interview.

"The members also approved exempting candidates with PhD degree prior to 2009, from having NET eligibility," Council member Prof Hansraj Suman told PTI. Such candidates will, however, have to submit two published research papers, he added.

The meeting also discussed the criteria for promotion of teachers. However, no final decision has been taken on the same. The decisions taken by Academic Council will have to be approved by DU's Executive Council.
