Owning to fog and deteriorating weather conditions, the district administrations of both Noida and Ghaziabad has asked schools to change their timings from Friday. In an order, issued on 8 December, the administration stated that classes will be held only from 9.30 am and 2.30 pm in all schools affiliated to ICSE, CBSE and UP Board in Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad, until further orders are issued. Currently, the schools usually function from 8 am to 2 pm.

The district magistrate has further asked the basic education officers to make sure that all schools comply with the orders.

"We decided to delay the opening of the schools to ensure safety of students. The school managements should ensure that classes from Nursery to XII are held from 9:30am to 2:30pm. We will monitor the weather conditions and take necessary steps. Till then, the schools are told to comply with the order," N P Singh, district magistrate, Gautam Budh Nagar, told TOI.

"The decision has been taken to ensure that students do not face any inconvenience due to adverse cold conditions," said Nidhi Kesharwani, Ghaziabad district magistrate.

Delhi NCR regions are currently engulfed in dense fog. Situation is not expected to improve anytime soon.
