With several confusions increasing over NEET 2016 and medical admissions, Union Health Minister J P Nadda asked Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh to resolve the impasse over denial of admission in MBBS course by a private college on 19 September.

Aspirants have been seeking admission to Maharshi Markendeshwar Medical College(MMMC), Kumarhatti (Solan) on the basis of NEET merit list and through centralised counselling by the state government.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister, the Health Minister cited the representation received from the parents of the students and urged him to take pro-active steps for completing the admission in a smooth manner without causing distress to students and their parents. Expressing his concern over the issue, Nadda said," The parents and students have complained that admission is not being given in MMMC as per the merit list prepared through centralised counselling on the basis of NEET merit."

"If the college has any issue with the government over the fee structure, it is the responsibility of the state government to fix it for all medical colleges including private ones through a fee committee," he further added.

Calling the incident unfortunate, Nadda assured all cooperation from the Centre and asked the state government to accord top priority to the issue. "It is extremely unfortunate that students are running from pillar to post for something they rightfully deserve," he said.

The state government had issued strict instructions to the college to make admissions as per the merit list of centralised counseling on the basis of NEET merit.

Over 150 students had alleged that the college had not given admission to them while some parents have also moved to the High Court seeking action. The MMMC is affiliated to Maharshi Markendeshwar University as a "consequent" college of the university.
