IIT Kharagpur students protest fee hike, go on hunger strike

Several students of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur sat on a hunger strike in protest to protest against the rising hostel fees on Tuesday.

According to reports, the institute's director and dean of student affairs were held-up inside the director's office throughout the night.

So far, the institute authorities responded, have not responded as students continue their on strike. According to students, during admission students were not informed about any fee hike and this decision came mid-semester.

Currently, sources believe that apart from IIT Kharagpur no other IIT in the country has hiked its hostel fee.

A similar incident happened when IITs increased the fee structure from Rs 90,000 to Rs 2,00,000 in April this year. This has caused a huge uproar among students of IIT Kharagpur.

According to latest reports, police has been deployment at the campus.
