If you are IIT students and facing difficulties in studying BTech then good news for such aspirants. The council for Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), chaired by Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishak’ said that candidates can opt a three-year BSc course without dropping out of the prestigious institute of India midway.

On Friday, the proposal has received the green signal from the council for Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). However, it has been left to the individual IITs to work out the modalities.

According to the HRD Ministry officials, “Academically weak students, who are not able to secure the required credits for promotion to the next semester may be allowed an exit option with a degree programme after the second semester, rather than being forced out of the programme.”

"Individual IITs will decide modalities for this," the official added.

Before this new implementation, students who enrolled in undergraduate programmes in IITs were required to complete the eight semesters (four years) to complete their BTech degree course.

But, now the academically weak students will get a chance to opt the BSc degree after completing the second semester and can quit the rest three years course.

Previously, the HRD Ministry shared the data, a total of 2,461 students have dropped out from the IITs in the last two year (both at the undergraduate and postgraduate level).

"Dropouts in undergraduate programmes are attributed to withdrawal due to wrong choices filled, poor academic performance of students, personal and medical reasons," said Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal.
