It must be a piece of good news for students belong to Sports and ECA quota as the University of Delhi to make new changes to the reservation category for such aspirants.

According to the reports of news agency PTI, colleges under Delhi University (DU) likely to increase the number of seats sanctioned under the ECA and sports categories at the department level.

The reason behind the decision is the higher demand for admissions.

However, DU will not breach the five percent ceiling of sports and ECA Admissions.

Every college of DU has to increase intake to five percent under the sports and Extra Curricular Activities (ECA) categories, out of the total seats for the admission.

In case, any department does not see the number of seats being filled up under these categories then the remain vacant seat will be transferred to another department, but without breaching the five percent cap.

In 2018, this was applicable to the ECA quota, but now, it will be applicable to sports also.

As per the official, “usually it is seen that the students in the sports and ECA categories opt for humanities and social science programmes, rather than a science since they feel they may not be able to cope with the pressure in the latter.”

"So, in case there are no admissions under the sports and ECA categories in the Science department, the vacant seats can be transferred to another department where there is a greater demand, but without breaching the total number at the college level," an official said.

The decision to increase Sports quota was taken at the meeting held on Monday.
