In an appalling incident, three Delhi traffic cops were arrested for sexually assaulting a man by stripping him after he allegedly refused to bribe on the night of 16 April.

The victim, a property dealer by profession, claimed that the cops identified - assistant sub-inspector Balwan Singh and constables Raju Kumar and Bharat - tortured and sodomised him at traffic police station near North Delhi's Sabzi Mandi. A leading daily quoted Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Madhur Verma as saying, "The victim was allegedly beaten up and sodomised. However, the medical check-up did not bring any kind of penetration to the fore."

Another police official added, "The victim got into an argument with the cops and later broke their challan machine. The cops got annoyed and started thrashing him. They later took him to the traffic police station."

A Zee News report added that the victim's family found him in a half-naked state near the Sabzi Mandi Police Station.

The three cops have been charged with a case under Sections 377 (unnatural sex), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), 343 (wrongful confinement for three or more days), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), and 365 (abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person) of the Indian Penal Code at the Sabzi Mandi police station.

A police official confirmed that the constables had been sent for 14 days judicial custody. However, ASI Balwan Singh was granted bail.
