A 61-year-old doctor was shot dead at his clinic in south-west Delhi's Palam area by an unidentified assailant, police said on 13 May.

The victim, identified as Balwant Singh, was a general physician at a clinic in Palam village.

A senior police official said that Singh was getting some renovation done in his single-room clinic and was about to leave when a person approached him, fired a round and fled on the night of 13 May.

Police teams rushed to the spot and a case of murder was registered. Efforts are on to nab the accused, DCP (Southwest) Surender Kumar said.Prima facie it appears to be a case of personal enmity. An official privy to the investigation said that Singh was under huge debt after he took loans for the marriage of his children. He was the sole bread-earner of the family. Singh also had a fallout with his brothers over the division of parental property. All his brothers live in the Palam area, police said. --PTI
