Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh picked up the tab for Rishabh Pant, saying that the young wicketkeeper dose not deserve the reprovals he is facing and needs the support of skipper Virat Kohli to prevail over the slump.

Yuvraj Singh further asserted that the team management needs to understand the psychology of Pant to get the best out of him.

Regardless of getting many opportunities, the young wicketkeeper has failed to consolidate his place in the Indian team.

"I really don't know what is happening with him (Rishabh). He is facing a lot of criticism which is not needed. Somebody needs to get the best out of him," Yuvraj said on the sidelines of 'The Sports Movement' summit of India On Track organisation.

"The people monitoring him, the coach, the captain have to guide him," he further said.

Rishabh Pant has been deemed as MS Dhoni’s successor. However, Rishabh Pant has received a lot of criticisms for his poor shot selections while giving away his wicket easily.

Previously, Head coach Ravi Shastri had also said that Rishabh Pant let the team down with his rash dismissal during the tour of West Indies and the youngester would be punished every time he fails to value his wicket.

Further more, Yuvraj stated that one should stop comparing Rishabh Pant with MS Dhoni. “MS Dhoni was not made in a day. It took a few years so it will take a few years for a replacement also. There is one year to go for the T20 World Cup so that is still a long time,” he said.

With MS Dhoni prolonging his break from cricket, Pant will have an opportunity to take his place behind the stumps. Pant will be looking to cement his position in the Indian team which will head to Australia for the T20I World Cup next year.
